Our Scout Group now operates from a purpose-built building alongside Testwood Lake in Totton.
After 20 years of fundraising, the building was finally completed and opened in June 2013 and we were able to move out of our cramped, land-locked hut. Whilst we used professional builders for the main shell and technical installation work, we owe a great debt of gratitude to the group of volunteers who spent hundreds of hours finishing the building and the grounds.
Testwood Lakes Sailability also use the centre, with a small fleet of Hansa Access Dinghies offering fully supervised dingy sailing for people of all ages with any degree of disability. A new wheelchair-accessible pontoon with a hoist has recently been installed.
Use of the building and water sports on the lake are limited to organised youth and disabled groups. Testwood Lakes are privately owned by Southern Water and managed by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust on their behalf. Public use of the lake for water sports is not permitted. Eling Sea Scouts and Sailability are licenced and follow strict governance rules to enable them to use the lake for boating, If you are interested in hiring the building please Get in Touch.
Please note that swimming is NOT permitted in the lake, which forms part of the Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve, which is managed by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, who also have an education centre nearby.
